Today is Earth Day
So, this just calls for a post about recycling. And I would assume that when people think about recycling that an Auto Repair Shop is probably not the first place that comes to mind. Yet is there any better?
Growing up in Germany, recycling has always been a way of life. My country is relatively small, so small things make an impact. Coming to America I noticed that recycling didn’t have the same importance. No matter if you believe in global warming, pollution, or recycling our resources, I am a firm believer though, that we should always leave a place better than we found it. What made us start recycling at the shop was actually the trash bill, that just kept getting higher and higher. We came to realize that we really didn’t need trash pick up every week, as the bulk of our trash was big cardboard boxes our parts came in. And then we started looking around what else we could recycle. Of course, there are used tires, there is used oil and oil filters from oil changes, transmission fluids and so on. And of course, the afore mentioned cardboard, magazines, newspapers and plastic bottles from all the water we drink. It’s amazing how much you can find, once you start looking.
We are committed to maintaining the beauty of our area and keeping our environment healthy. We have made an effort to minimize our environmental ‘footprint’ in a variety of ways. We believe that part of being part of this community is a responsibility to take care of this community through responsible and environmentally friendly business practices. As such, we have made it a point to become a ‘green’ auto repair shop in as many ways as possible.
Another way to accomplish this, is to purchase products in ways designed to minimize packaging wastes, like bulk oil. Waste oil is picked up and recycled into a form of fuel that is used as an energy source to power generators and other machines. There are heating systems designed to burn waste oil and an auto repair shop is an ideal place to do so, unfortunately it is very expensive to install. But it is definitely something we want to do down the road.
Our hope is to add to a positive experience for our customers by knowing, that they support a repair shop, that makes a diligent effort in keeping our environment and community healthy.
